Garden shed ideas – Who said sheds are only for gardening purposes?

What do you use your garden shed or outbuilding for? Need ideas? We look at the many useful, practical and sometimes surprising uses for a garden shed

Pet shelter – whilst convenient, cat-flaps aren’t suitable for all doors and can create an unwanted draft. Putting one in the shed, however, is an ideal solution giving your cat somewhere to shelter that won’t affect your house. They also make excellent houses for rabbits. The days of bunnies being kept in hutches to fatten them up are long gone and a shed could provide more space for your money (compared to purchases from pet shops). Just make sure that a run is attached to give access to outside.

Domestic store – If you can connect it to power, a shed can house a fridge freezer or tumble drier, freeing up space in your home. Add some shelves and you have an outdoor pantry.

Games room– whether it’s a table for football, pool or air hockey, converting your shed into a sports space allows you to enjoy competitions without disturbing the rest of the family.

Your local – make your dream come true by being able to meet with your friends, a mere few steps from your back door. Just ensure favourite beers and snacks are always in stock!

Workspace – with office rents at a premium, sole traders and new businesses can struggle for somewhere to set-up. Converting your shed means that you can physically ‘go to work’ in a separate space with just a minimal commute. It also means your equipment is away from the children and you have a quiet area to concentrate and make phone calls from.
